The Lake Tahoe Disc Golf Course at Bijou Park is a “Must Play”

The 22nd Annual Tahoe Pro/Am is here

My brother Jason has three priorities in life: faith, family & disc golf. Oh sure, he is a small business owner who works insane hours commuting all over Northern California, but he works like crazy to free up time to golf – disc golf.

Ten days from now, he will be enjoying one of the four Lake Tahoe disc golf courses, at the 22nd Annual Tahoe Pro/Am competition, in South Lake Tahoe’s beautiful Bijou Park. The Lake Tahoe disc golf course at Bijou is a “must play” in his book. Jason’s favorite Lake Tahoe disc golf course is at Zephyr Cove Park because of the challenge and view of the lake. However, when I asked him which Tahoe course to recommend to a friend he stated without hesitation, “Bijou.”

Hidden beach at Cove East – Local Secret

Can you keep a secret?  Neither can I……

Saturday, July 9th I was looking for a spot to enjoy the beach with the kids. The parking lots at El Dorado Beach were full by 10:30. Pope Beach was turning away cars at 11 am. Of course everyone wants to hang at the beach on a Saturday in the middle of July. So, where to go…

Cove East

Cove East 4

Cove East is a hidden cove and South Lake Tahoe beach in the Tahoe Keys neighborhood. Cove East is a California Conservancy restoration project area with habitats galore. Bring your little scientist, bird watcher, and botanist. The hiking path into the cove meanders through meadows filled with wildflowers and a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountains.

Cove East 6

The beach is adjacent to the mouth of the marina and deep water inlet of Lake Tahoe. Because of the low water levels, the water does not meet the beach. However, there are many connected sand bars that you can picnic along and play in the water. There is ample room to spread out and enjoy time with your friends and family.

Cove East 2

The Cove East hidden South Lake Tahoe beach is found at the end of a lovely, flat, wide trail that is about 1/3 mile long. The Cove East trail is perfect for strollers, bicycles with training wheels, and even electric wheel chairs. Dogs are welcome on a leash. There is no drinking water, picnic tables, BBQ pits or bathrooms provided. So use the restroom before you head down the path, and pack in some water and treats. There are dog waste disposal stations.

Cove East

In spite of its hidden reputation, Cove East is quite easy to locate. From highway 50, take Tahoe Keys Boulevard. Take a right at Venice Boulevard. Follow Venice Boulevard to the end. At the end of the cul-de-sac you will see the Tahoe Keys Yacht Club on the left and the Cove East trail on the right. Park somewhere along Venice Boulevard. Enjoy one of our local secrets – Cove East.

Fine Drinks, Good Company & Great Ambiance

I am so excited to tell you all about my latest discovery!

Revive Coffee & Wine - sign

Revive Coffee & Wine provides specialty coffee drinks, local craft beer, local & regional wines, and small plate appetizers in an intimate cottage with storybook gardens.  Revive has the perfect blend of relaxing environment and restorative nourishment.

Revive Coffee & Wine - front garden

The ambiance at Revive is truly unique. The building is an old Tahoe style house with rock fireplace where patrons can partake in a game of chess while enjoying their drinks.

Revive Coffee & Wine - Fireplace

The front gardens have the look of an upscale beer garden, similar to the ones you find along the countryside bicycle routes in Germany. Wine barrel tables and stools are gathered in groups across the landscape, waiting for friends to gather. The rear garden is my favorite. This whimsical oasis travels along a meandering path with groups of patio tables scattered about.

“I have enjoyed great health at a great age because every day since I can remember, I have consumed a bottle of wine – except when I have not felt well. Then I have consumed two bottles.”                  (Bishop of Seville)
